2017 Meeting dates:

For just £15 you get a season of stimulating evening talks by big names in gardening, and visits to iconic gardens in the summer months. Why not come and join us?

All meetings, unless otherwise noted, are on the third Thursday of the month at 7.30 pm in Oxenhope Community Centre.

Admission, unless otherwise noted, is £3 for non members, members free. Membership is £15 per year.

March 16th	Steven Hickman	Cultivation and Propagation of Agapanthus / Nerines.
		Steven is from Hoyland Plant Centre, holders of the 'National Plant Collection' for Agapanthus and Tulbaghia.
April 20th	Christine Walkden	An evening with Christine Walkden.
		Christine is a British television presenter and gardener, best known for her appearances on gardening programmes and The One Show. She has hosted her own series, Christine's Garden on the BBC.

May 18th		Club Plant Sale
		Fundraising for your club. Plants, tea, coffee and cake.
		Non members welcome, no charge for admission
		Payment due tonight if you are going on the Club Outing on Saturday July 22nd (places still available). £26 by cheque please.
June 15th (Thursday)		Visit to Slack Top Alpines and a trough planting demonstration
		Visit on Thursday June 15th 2017 Meet at the Nursery at 7.00 pm. No admission charges Tour and demonstration of planting of an alpine trough. Plants to buy! But no toilets and no tearoom. The nearest public toilets are in Heptonstall village (opposite the Weavers Square). Payment at the nursery is by cash or cheque only.
		Slack Top is approximately two miles from the centre of Hebden Bridge. The nursery entrance is behind the red bus shelter on the right. Plenty of roadside parking is available. Directions here
July 22nd (Saturday)		Club Outing to Linden Lodge Garden (York) & Breezy Knees Garden
		Places are still available on our summer Club Outing to Linden Lodge Garden (York) & Breezy Knees Garden on Saturday July 22nd leaving Oxenhope Station at 9.30 am prompt. Tea and biscuits included for elevenses at Linden Lodge. A café is available at Breezy Knees for lunch and they have a wide range of plants for sale. The total cost of the outing is £26 (excluding lunch). All payments are now due, please pay at the Plant Sale (May 18th) by cheque.
August 28th (Monday afternoon 2 pm.)		Visit to Cottingley Bridge Allotment Gardens
		You are all invited to come for an informal visit to the Cottingley Bridge allotments, where Steve Spires and Jenny Hakney have been running a plot since autumn 2015. Opened in 1844 by Disraeli, the allotment site is vast: you couldn’t possibly look around it all in one afternoon, so Jenny has asked a few key plot-holders, near her plot, if they would mind people looking around. We hope that most of them will be around to talk about what they do, but can’t guarantee this. The plots you could see are: • Steve and Jenny’s organic part-plot with river bank, apple trees, wildlife ponds and old greenhouse with peach tree. We have a small patio area where we will serve cold drinks and biscuits. (There is no running water so we are very limited as to what catering we can offer.) • Eddie next door who grows carnations and lots of other flowers and veg. • Rachel who grows cut flowers for her business, Owlhouse Flowers. • Steve next door to Jenny and Steve, who grows fuchsias and has this year built a very impressive basket house which may possibly still have unsold baskets inside. • Andrew on the other side of the track, who has a very good vegetable plot. Jenny is also hoping to ask the dahlia man if we can see his dahlias. If the weather is kind we will put seating out, and you are welcome to sit with your drink and take in your surroundings. There are no toilets, but it may be possible to visit nature al fresco behind a screen! Flat comfy shoes will be essential. No charge but suggested donation to club funds.

September 21st	Gill Hodgson	Flowers for cutting
		Gill formed the national organization Flowers from the Farm a not-for-profit network run and administered solely by volunteers in 2011.
October 19th	Sarah Hopps	Late summer border
		Sarah is a gardening enthusiast who acts as a tour guide, escorting groups round the gardens of Britain and Europe. She has always had a passion for plants and gardening. For 15 years she ran her own hardy plant nursery specialising in cottage garden plants. She enjoys writing, broadcasting and giving talks on all things horticultural and writes for "Garden Answers" and was a regular panellist on "BBC Radio York".
		Sarah is coming to talk to us about making the most of our late summer borders. She is a keen exponent of putting the right plant in the right place and will help us keep our borders looking good into the winter.
November 16th	Clifford Cain	Fruit growing in the North of England
		Clifford is the founder of Fruitscape, an organisation that provides expert care and advice to amateur fruit growers.
		Clifford will be debunking the myth that it's not possible to grow fruit successfully in the north of England. He will also be giving advice about the vast array of soft and top fruit that can be successfully grown in the north.
